Crematorium hosts informal talk about conversations you should be having

New Southgate Cemetery, Crematorium & Memorial Gardens is hosting an informal talk aimed at encouraging families to have important conversations with their loved ones about funeral wishes.

The crematorium, with support from Chas A Nethercott & Son Funeral Directors, is holding the informal event at South Mimms Village Hall on Tuesday 17 March between 11am and 1pm.

The free event provides an opportunity for people to gain a better understanding of the journey families and individuals go through when faced with death.

Crematorium Manager David Stevenson said: “It’s something no one really wants to talk about, but it is so important that these conversations do take place, as they help make everything easier when the time comes.

“Those who attend this talk will be able to ask my colleague Matthew Brook our community engagement lead and Victoria Nethercott funeral director any questions they have in a safe and welcoming space, and will hopefully leave feeling more informed, better prepared and knowing that they are supported.

“Whether you’re currently supporting someone through their grief, have a loved one who’s nearing the end of their life, or are thinking about what you might want for your own funeral, this event is designed to give you everything you need in order to make informed choices, whatever your situation.”

New Southgate Cemetery, Crematorium & Memorial Gardens is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 42 sites in England, Scotland and Wales, and which is trusted by more families than any other provider to deliver funerals for their loved ones.

All Westerleigh's locations are set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect, while benefiting from exceptional care and support from its teams.

Dave added: “Like all Westerleigh Group crematoria, we are committed to providing exceptional care to the families we support.

“But that does not just mean in the run-up to, and on the day of, a funeral service.

“Our care and support goes far beyond that, from helping families to honour and memorialise loved ones – sometimes years after they have passed – to events like this, encouraging everyone to talk about their wishes and explore what options are available and the kind of things they need to think about when a loved one passes.

“This is a chance to speak frankly and openly, but in an informal setting, with professional experts who have the knowledge and experience to answer all your questions.”

No booking is necessary for the event and light refreshments will be provided.

There is free parking available at South Mimms Village Hall, although spaces are limited.
